ADVANCE LOGGER

FAQ

1. Is SSI or JavaScript Option in Advance Logger better ?

We would recommend you use the SSI option unless you require the followingadditional features :-
1. Advance Logger is on a different server.
2. Your server spans multiple sites and you want to log all of them fromone place.
3. Server Side Include is not available.

The most importantbenefit of SSI is that it can log all traffic, including spiders and searchother web bots that visit your site. Its always interesting to know ifsearch engines spiders have properly indexed your site. For CGI generatedpages, you can use the javascript option. YOU CAN USE SSI and JAVA SCRIPTat the same time.

2. How do I log access to my CGI generated pages.

As you cannot use the server side option in CGI scripts, you can add theJava Script code to the HTML output from your cgi pages. Remember unlikeother logging software's you can use SSI and Java Script at the same time.

3. What is theoptimum size of my log file.

Advance Logger is optimized a lot for speed. However while creating reports,it will use as much memory as your log file to create reports. The defaultof 2 Mb is good enough for a 20000 hits, most users set this to 5 Mb andit works fine. Do not set this to a huge figure or you are going to bethrown out by your hosting company.

4. Why did my logfile size reduce.

When ever your log file reaches the maximum specified in $maxsize, itremoves 25% of the old data.

5. Why does itshow spiders like google in the Top Operating system as well as the TopBrowser area.

The Browser and theOperating system is determined be the agent tag that is sent by the browser. When advance logger is unable to determine what it is, instead of discardingit, it shows the tag as it was sent by the browser. After all its theseodd entries that make the logs interesting. Click on it to see which allpages were visited.
